- from your friends at Xanga

Well, Xanga. You win. I logged in. I've posted. And all because you want to erase a decent portion of my high school life and all of the memories and broken links that go along with it.

On another note, you'll notice my plan to start a really cool, ultra-sophisticated website... yeah. It pretty much went nowhere as well.

Except they aren't trying to erase my stuff.

See you in another two years.

It's been fun.

And sad. And at times, a bit pathetic.

I set up my first Xanga some time into the first semester of my freshman year. It was one of those giddy impulse decisions. The pointless kind that come about after seeing that everyone you know has one. In my case, "everyone" consisted of three or so people.

The site's name was problematic in itself. I always hated it, but for the life of me, I couldn't come up with anything better. "Got Blue Milk?" No. I didn't. And no one else did either. Freshman Nicky just decided that a picture of a monkey drinking blue milk ripped from Google Images was a good enough basis for a site name. I started off the site in typical newbie fashion. Detailed rundowns of my days at school were fair and really, the only game. Add to that recipe a dash of naiveness, a sprinkle of comments from said three people, and a handful of horribly uninspired "Nick Notes" and you have my woefully underbaked site. My only saving grace was that I used complete sentences and grammar.

I eventually grew sick enough of the name that I shut it down. And on March 14, 2004, this lil' beauty was created. I have no clue how I chose this site name, but I can assure you that no photoshopped primates were involved. I continued on with my pointless "My day was....." posts for a while and eventually mixed in the odd photoshop or miscellaneous post. Sometime in December 2004, I did some site cleaning. Site nuking. Whathaveyou. I erased all my posts and started over. What emerged was a blend of photos and words. And he saw that it was good.

It's been fun.

I've had my share of good times on here. I've had even better times with the people I've met on here. In a nutshell, it's been far from pointless.

But now, 836 days after I started this site and almost a thousand after I was asked for the first time if I wanted to upgrade to Xanga Premium, I'm calling it quits and moving on to something else.

I realize this sounds like a farewell letter to the world. Like I'm shipping off to another country and saying goodbye forever. It's not, and I'm not. Sorry for getting your hopes up. I just feel the need to write this all down somewhere. To document it so that I can look back on it another two years from now and see how stupid I was. It's all about the memories, and this site has more than its share. It's made more than its share.

Don't worry, I'll leave the site up and still comment on yours, but other than that, greatness_is_overrated will be collecting a thick layer of virtual dust.

If you haven't checked out my new site yet, please do. I'm kinda sorta proud of it. It's got room to grow and space to spare. I'm looking forward to keeping it for a long time to come. And If you come along for the ride, I promise...

It'll be fun.

This isn't an update, just so you know.

I have something I've been working on for a while now...something big. That will be my update. It might be done next week, or it might be done next month. And until it is done, updates...what updates? You can speculate about what it is
(and those who know better keep their mouths shut under penalty of....something because this is the only way I figure I can make the prolonged  silence and this post more interesting), but it will be incredible...I hope.

So sit back, pour yourselves some ice-cold lemonade, turn up the volume, and enjoy your summers.

One more thing...

XC PRACTICE STARTS NEXT WEEK!

Maybe I should start running?

EDIT: Turns out that my broken camera decided to be unbroken at some point in the last 9 months. We'll see how long that lasts, especially since I don't have the Rebel. Withdrawal's a biotch.
